What is tailwind CSS?

This is a framework or library that takes a new approach; you would call it a library because it’s really focused only on the CSS part of building websites. So it takes what they call a utility first approach and using this you can create an entire site that looks pretty good and very unique without writing a single line of CSS. You may think how it is different from Bootstrap. Well, bootstrap focuses more on components like buttons, slideshows like carousels, etc. whereas tailwind is really just the CSS. So, that is one of the main differences when you work with tailwinds. You are not getting any JavaScript to work with at all which means you don’t get some of the functionality but you get just a lot more flexibility

Here are some points we are going to learn about tailwind

·        Utility First CSS Library

·        Rich classes

·        No components/interactivity

Utility First CSS Library:-

Utility First means you don’t really need components but you get tons of classes that help you build websites and designs super quickly. So I really like this new library. Unlike Bootstrap, it has a lot of options for just about everything.

Rich Classes:-

Tailwind CSS provides a lot of classes to be used for each component. For Example- when you set the width in tailwinds you can just add this class

Here SIZ can be of your choice like zero to as much as you want or other values like auto, PX, full, screen, min, and max.

No components/interactivity:-

The disappointing thing in tailwind CSS is that there are no components so it actually takes a class to just create something.

For example: – If you want to create a button, you have to add a lot of classes to just build a single button.

Pros and Cons of Tailwind CSS

·        It makes the styling process much faster.

·        It provides more convenience. You don’t have to deal with a lot of the issues that many developers face with CSS.

·        Tailwind comes with no component

·        It is just a CSS

·        Complex configuration

What is Bootstrap?

Bootstrap is a free and open-source CSS framework directed at responsive, mobile-first front-end web development. Bootstrap is fantastic for very quick scaffolding; you install a link tag and you get a well-designed website that you can use right away and with a minimal amount of classes. Classes are structured with names that kind of make sense depending on the component types. Bootstrap is designed for building something quickly. In tailwind CSS we have to use a lot of classes so bootstrap is a lot quicker. It does have a lot of useful styles, built-in components for making things like cards,  models,  navigations,  carousels, and tons of other things.

Pros and Cons of Bootstrap

·        Bootstrap comes with lots of components

·        It comes with JavaScript

·        Styles and verbose can lead to lots of output in HTML which is not needed

·        JavaScript is tied to jQuery and is one of the most common libraries which thus leaves most of the plugins unused.

Bootstrap Vs Tailwind Installation

You might be thinking, is there any need to install both of them or any other method to use them. So here I am going to mention some of the methods you can use.

For Bootstrap:-

·        With bootstrap, you have a simple CSS link. You have to only include that link to the CSS

·        You can also add the script tag and the script tag will give you access to all the interactivity

·        If you want to customize bootstrap then you have to use Sass. It is for more advanced users.

For Tailwind:-

·        Just like bootstrap you can put a link tag and link it to the CSS

·        It requires a build process. For this, you are going to have a more advanced user to work with it.

Which one is best?

Now we have got to know about what the Tailwind CSS is, its pros and cons, and similar for Bootstrap as well. Now it’s surely making confusion in your mind about which one to choose. So here is a summary of that.

So, first I’ll say that if you are not using component-based architecture, so if you’re not using something like react or Vue or some other component-based framework then you can surely go with Bootstrap.  If I’m building a website that has a lot of repeating elements, I don’t want to write and modify those classes over and over. Go with bootstrap if you want to build a website very quickly.

For component-based architectures like react or Vue, tailwind is way better than Bootstrap. It has the ability to modify elements just with classes it just made for component-based architectures. So, if you are using something like Vue or React, I would definitely recommend you to use tailwind.
