Hola Amigo!! Have you ever played any online game such as PUBG, COD, Valorant, CS GO? If yes then you must have heard the terms ping, latency, lag, and jitter.. In this article by Terminal Stack, we will discuss many important topics that you must know before using these terms. To overcome your high ping there are tips in last so please read till the end.

What is a Ping?
In professional terms, it is the measure of latency. Let us understand this concept with a simple analogy, suppose you wave your hand towards your friend, so first he receives your signal and then responds to you by waving back. Now you are the PC, your friend is the server, and the delay by your friend to respond to your signal is called latency. The total time for the process is called ping. It is measured in milliseconds (ms).
What is a good Ping?
You must have wondered, what is the minimum ping you need for smooth gameplay. A less ping would mean that your communication with the server is fast and takes less time to sync your signals. A ping that is less than 100 ms is the average ping you will get from a network provider. Any ping less than 20ms is overpowered and can help you master any game. However, any game would perform equally playful when the ping is between 50 and 100 ms.
A ping between 100ms and 200ms would run the job as well but the game will stick.
Any Ping higher than this can be considered as high and its effects are visible in the game.
Having a constant high ping can cause massive delays in the gamer’s decision and the response of the game, such situations are called Lags. There are other reasons also that can cause lags such as RAM shortage, Graphic card malfunctioning, etc.
Factors that affect Ping!
These are some reasons that might answer your questions.
There are many ways to connect to the internet such as DSL, LAN, Fiber, etc. The best you can have is Fiber, but these are not available everywhere. I have experienced three Fibers namely JIO Fiber, Airtel FIber, and UCN Fiber. The best experience was with Jio Fiber, if it is available in your area go for it. To check availability click here . Then Airtel fiber was also good and supported needs equally. The UCN does not deliver as promised, my 40 Mbps plan gives me around 16 Mbps download speed. If fiber is not available go for DLS( Digital Subscriber Line) or LAN these are not consistent enough but they deliver their purpose.
This is the main factor affecting the ping. This is the measure of how fast the data packets are downloaded and uploaded. The average speed one should have to get a good ping is about 15 to 40 Mbps. To check your internet speed there is this safe and free website: Speedtest. Both the upload and download speed are equally important while playing an online game.
Bandwidth is the maximum amount of data transferred in a given amount of time. This is a very important factor as your connection should be able to transmit the required amount of informative data. Let us look at bandwidth and ping closely. If you are streaming a movie on your device you want to have a good bandwidth so that your device can load huge amounts of data every second and load the movie. In such cases, the speed of the network has a lesser impact than the amount of data the network can transmit.
Every data packet that enters and leaves the system goes through a security check by your installed anti-virus software. This intermediate process takes a few milliseconds to function but sometimes it can malfunction which may result in a bad ping.
3 Ways to get a good Ping :
- Go to your antivirus settings and make the application you want to have a good ping an exception. Only do so when you trust the application.
- If you are the only one using the wireless connection, attach an ethernet cable directly to the converter. This is a very helpful way because now the wireless connection is turned into a wired one.
- There can be times when your system has some connecting issues with a specific server. In such a case, you can connect a VPN and switch to a server that has the lowest ping.
- (bonus tip) Go to device manager–>Network adapters–>Select your Wi-Fi connection–>properties–>Advanced–>transmit power–> put Value: Highest .
